Lost engine manufacturers: CJR Fyson & Son Ltd of Soham, Cambs Gallery
Believed to be at the rear of the Fyson family home, the Burrell is unidentified but believed to possibly be No 486. The picture dates from around 1885.
The landmark windmill at Fyson’s Soham yard, built from various bits of scrap which helped power their works for several years.
T2 leaves Fyson’s yard on hire to Brown Aves (who is driving) of Isleham. The yard is to the right of the photograph.
Fyson’s first traction engine, T1, when new in 1894 in front of the shed where it was built. The man holding the child is CJR Fyson and on the footplate are George Powell and Robert Morley (with beard).
T9 on hire at Chalk Farm, Isleham in the 1930s. This engine replaced T2, which Aves had earlier hired.
T13 at the Cambridge & Ely Show near Ely in 1914. T13 was a rebuild based on Robey No 5187 and was not a happy engine, being somewhat underpowered.
T15 taken at Spinney Abbey c1939. The young lady on the footplate is the driver’s daughter. T15 stopped being used during the war when the firebox cracked.
Not a hatless head in sight as T10 gives a treat to the Baptist Sunday School children through the centre of Soham in 1923.
T14 was purchased by Peacock’s of Haddenham after the war, along with T15, and both were towed home by T3, which they already owned.
