KNOWN to many in the traction engine and vintage vehicle movement, Brian Sharp was just 65 and suffered a heart attack while walking home from work on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

Brian, a life-long steam enthusiast, lived in Stotfold all his married life with his wife Rose. He has driven traction engines for the Saunders Collection in Stotfold since the 1970s – usually their Wallis & Steevens traction engine No 7666 of 1919 Wheatsheaf – where he would frequently be seen wearing his trademark bowler, hence his affectionate nickname ‘Bowler’.
He was a leading light in the Bedford Steam Engine Preservation Society for some 40 years – both on the committee and as its chairman – a position held for six years. Rose and the children all supported Brian in his steam activities and they would frequently be seen by his side at rallies across the country.
Both Brian and Rose loved the outdoor life and were keen ornithologists and members of the National Trust.
Brian leaves his wife, Rose, and children Nicola and Gareth, as well as their partners and two grandchildren. Our condolences and thoughts are for his family.
The funeral will be held on Friday, January 20 at St Mary’s Church, Stotfold at 1pm.
