Egyptian combo

MR Peter Arnold will be pleased to know that the unusual UK-built loco and carriage combination illustrated in his letter in OG 263 still exists. I saw it in October 2010 in the Egyptian Railways Museum at Cairo’s main station.
Builder’s plate ‘R Stephenson of Newcastle on Tyne, 1862’ on the Egyptian loco/carriage combination at Cairo. JOHN PORTER
As the station is currently undergoing a major renovation, the museum was closed to allow the exhibits to be protected for removal but the authorities were kind enough to let a group of Newcomen Society and AIA members in. The loco and carriage combination was under wraps and well hemmed in but I did get a shot of the left side cylinder and the builder’s plate; R Stephenson of Newcastle on Tyne, 1862.
