Maker's plate stolen from Shipley Glen Tram Museum
By: Colin Tyson
AN historic artefact from the famous Shipley Glen Tramway Museum, Shipley, Bradford, West Yorkshire was stolen just before Christmas.
Shipley Glen: stunned by theft of plate.
While a display case was open for cleaning in the Shipley Glen Tramway Museum, somebody stole a brass maker’s plate just dimensionally larger than the palm of a hand. The maker’s plate is from the original gas suction engine which powered the Tramway which was built and installed in 1895 by John Robson Ltd, of Hurd Street, Shipley, who continued in business until 1987. The Tramway Museum displayed the brass maker’s plate embossed "John Robson Shipley Gas Engine" in one of the museum’s display cases, which formed part of the heritage collections.
Anyone with information regarding the loss of the John Robson maker’s plate should contact: Richard Freeman, Shipley Glen Tramway Museum, Prod Lane, Baildon, Shipley, West Yorkshire, BD17 5BN. Tel: 01274 589010.
The Tramway is due to feature in Old Glory February, on sale from January 19.
