16 JULY: There are just three days left to save the former Humber Paddle Steamer PS Lincoln Castle from destruction at its berth in Grimsby.

THREE DAYS LEFT TO SAVE PADDLE STEAMER!

PS Lincoln Castle on the Humber crossing in 1977.

As reported in OG 246, Owner of PS Lincoln Castle Colin Johnson has already hired contractors to remove internal panelling from the vessel, built to the order of the LNER and entering service in 1941.

But preservationist Stephen Sharpe, chairman of Lincoln Castle Preservation Society, has led a campaign to save her from deconstruction and stated on 16 July that they are NOW JUST £13,000 SHORT of the funds required to secure her. The deadline that was originally the end of August is now MONDAY 19 JULY.

Stephen told Old Glory, "both the engines and the superstructure are present and sound. We will have a concerted campaign over the weekend in both Grimsby and Hull, the latter will see teams of volunteers mingling with the thousands of visitors expected to witness the Round the World Clipper Racing Festival and will be leafleting pledge forms. The cutters torches move in on Wednesday but she can still be saved."

"What we need at the moment are pledges - not cheques because we haven't got time for them to clear. We will be most grateful for any pledges, which will be routed via a solicitor acting on our behalf and who is giving his services free of charge."

Telephone 01482 491227 or email linconcastlepreservationsociety@hotmail.co.uk for further information and how you can help.

Updates will be given when more details are known. PLEASE DON'T LEAVE IT TOO LATE!!

UPDATE: 21 JULY 2010. We have got a little more time befor the cutters move in. We are having an inspection done on the vessel on Friday. We have, if all the cheques are honoured, just under £6,000 to find. We are so clse now, and help is still needed so we do not lose a unique vessel.

any supporters can do the following:

A) e-mail the solicitors iain.butterworthmytonlaw.co.uk

Iain and Myton law have given their time free of charge, and I can not thank them enough. Pledges to them will buy us more time. If your members/subscribers wish to help us, then can you ask them (and adjust webpage to match) to pay cheques to Paddle Steamer Lincoln Castle Limited. This is properly charted company which was purchased off the P.S.P.S. We are talking to each other, and the P.S.P.S are giving us advice and help. As Chairman of the L.C.P.S, I do not mind if the cheques are sent to me or to the solicitors. They all go to saving the Lincoln Castle after all! Pledges first to show the support, and cheques later to pay the short fall. my home phone number is 01482 491227, and my home address is
33 Salisbury Street
